invites are the first impression!

and never underestimate the power of a first impression so set the tone with save the dates and your invitations!

save the dates and invitations are the first glimpse your guests will have of your event! so use this opportunity to set the expectation for what kind of vibe you are looking to create -
is the event a formalblack tie affair? a hip loft soiree? or a picnic in the park? you want your invites to reflect the atmosphere of your event and create excitement for your guests....what happens next? get planning!

in the crazy days of planning your wedding...

take some time out!
sit back, have a warm cup o' joe and relax...
the time will pass quickly,
there are lists to complete and things to do
but remember to take some time out for yourself
and spend time with each other - take advantage
of lazy fall days - go apple picking,
catch a movie you've been dying to see... enjoy!

in vogue....

Old Hollywood Glamour is making a Comeback!

vintage inspired dresses with a 1940's screen siren look are all the rage for this seasons brides! paired with accesories that reflect a bygone era we're finding women incorporating single blooms in a Billie Holiday style... perhaps a gardenia bloom to stimulate the senses....or a gorgeous orchid in a vibrant color!

A unique idea for a garden setting...perfect for an early fall wedding at the Boathouse in Prospect Park!
Each table featured a varied landscape throughout the room! design by kerry Quade of root stock & quade

your reception should reflect your vibe!

keep your ceremony decor understated as it is all about you and the commitment you are making to each other and let the fun party vibe be revealed at the reception!

incorporate items such as photos of family and your ‘courting’ days together at the card table or on a mantle if the site has one...

use vintage containers! old and borrowed and blue.... well not so borrowed but a collection of old blue McCoy pottery makes a statement as vessels for fresh flowers on your dining tables!

personalize it!

personalize it! your wedding is all about you... and your groom of course... and your day should reflect as such! a fun thing a couple did recently was they went around the city taking pictures of themselves holding large cards with numbers on them to reflect the table numbers, put them in frames and it was a fun accent on each table that really showed some personality! - kerry Quade from root stock & quade www.rootstockquade.com

groovy spots...

look in the nooks and crannies for a unique spot.... recently I find more and more people are choosing smaller more intimate venues for their big celebration! in keeping with the feeling - decor and menu should reflect a special but intimate vibe creating almost an extension of a couple’s personal space as if they were welcoming a large group of their nearest and dearest to a super fun dinner party or special cocktail soiree!
some favorite finds.... the Brooklyn Historical Society, the garden @ Five Front Street, & Brooklyn Bridge Park!

where to start?

tip!
getting hitched? then you need a marriage license!

In NY there is no required premarital exam or blood test however, there is a 24hr waiting period and once issued a license is valid for only 60 days... the application fee is approximately $40. which includes the certificate of marriage registration which is to be mailed to you 15 days after completed license is returned by the officiant.

Both the bride and groom must be present to sign and bring proof of age such as birth certificate or naturalization papers as well as proof of identity – license or passport will do.
